A message from the president of the church board

Our lovely weather helps to remind us what a beautiful place God has given us in which to live. His creation is truly wondrous.
I am pleased to be able to report to you some good news. We have received a refund on 4 years’ property taxes from the re-evaluation of the status of the property at Jefferson and Trower. The property is still partially taxable, but the exempt area has been increased so our tax liability has decreased. Our Church Council will be prayerfully deciding the best disposition/use of the refund as we consider the entirety of our mission here in this place.
By the time you receive this it will have been a full year since we voted to become one congregation. I thank God every day for each and every one of you. God has provided so many talented people to work in our vineyard. As we move toward our actual merger anniversary let us keep in mind that our missional goal requires all of us working together, and I rejoice in the way you are stepping forward to meet the needs. Within the next few months we will be looking at individual needs AND individual abilities. We will want to know, for each of you, where your passion lies, which part of the ministry most speaks to you. We do have two wonderful pastors, but they cannot be everywhere doing everything at once. I am reminded of President John F. Kennedy’s famous speech in which he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” Lately I have been thinking in terms of, “Ask not what your God and your Church can do for you, but what you can do for your God and for your Church.” I am not referring to “earning our way to heaven.” Jesus has already done that for us. I am referring to the fact that when one receives a gift, one often feels so grateful that one feels driven to try to do something for the giver. Jesus has given us the greatest gift of all, salvation through his death and resurrection. What is our passion, what do we feel called to do for other of God’s children because of our thankfulness to Jesus?
As school ends and families and friends travel for fun and fellowship may we ever keep in mind our great blessings and be thankful for them. Thank you, Jesus. Blessings to you all.
In Christ, Roberta Simcoe
